Should every corporate Help to go green by their means?

Posted on December 12th, 2009 by admin

We know the different Govts, work towards environment. And They have their own limitations. We also know that individuals and corporates pollute the environment the most. In this regard, wouldn’t it be nice that every organization, small or big, should be planting trees (and not just maintaining beautiful parks) and maintaining them to adulthood. The Govt. can help with land for those organizations that do not have land to plant trees, rest can do it on their own land. I feel this should be made mandatory, if possible with tax relief (as an extra incentive), and the move should come up from deep down the hearts of the corporates as well. I hope this discussion reaches the decision makers of this field, and something os done.

This is an excellent sentiment, but there is a problem with it. The problem is that publicly held companies (but not privately held ones) are legally required to act in such a way as to maximize the financial returns to their stockholders. Unless environmental protection can positively impact the bottom line for these companies, they are less likely to make the decision to make environmentally friendly decisions. I agree that if Governments gave tax incentives to these corporations, it would be more likely that such actions would positively impact their bottom line. It may not be the most economically efficient allocation of federal monies, but it could get the job done.

How many trees have you planted at home?
How many plants you have in your house?
How much space you have left for garden at your home?
Have you ever tried to convince your family and friends for doing all the above.
If Not, begin from there. Don’t expect anything from anyone/ anywhere if you are not doing anything yourself.
Talking is the easiest things but it doesn’t solve any thing.

i agree. of course corporations like bpamaco and G.E. try to spin a changed image but it is just preposterous to think of these companies as earth friendly when they have destroyed so much in the last 50 to 100 years. they should be required to find better alternatives to oil. they have the money and they’re not going to lose any business by switching over to less harmful fuels.
corporations used to be property of the public- founded by charters of agreements- and those charters could be revoked when they broke the law. one judge in the late 1800’s declared that corporations had the same rights as individuals, hence financing of public officials, and since then all such rights have been based on that one judge’s interpretation of the law.
yes. they should be forced to repay their pollution footprints, or atleast do so voluntarily as a service to the earth and the people who have helped them exist and prosper.

going green is a great idea, But there are HUGE corporations that do not want this. Loss of billion dollar profits are at stake. Guess Who? right now we should also be implementing fuel conservation technology that is here now. take some time and look at new cars in other contries. Then ask yourself, or tell yourself, "I want that type of efficency here in my garrage! then ask why cant I have it?

i agree that changes need to begin at the individual level, but these big and even small companies should be held accountable as well, there are many things that these companies could do to help the environment and a lot of them are easy, switching to CFL type bulbs, using recycled products as often as possible, recycling, etc all the things that each of us should be doing in our own homes. and yes they should get tax incentives for doing certain things like switching to hybrid vehicles, putting up solar panels to help make them more self sufficient, switching to energy star products, etc. just my opinion though.

agriculture being a loosing business to the farmers are selling their land at throw away prices .which requires much drastic steps than above as this will result in famine like situation and will forced to import food at 4 times higher prices and wipe out 60% of green land

I think the primary responsibility lies with the government. If the policies and enforcement are honest and true, every place in India will be green. Given a choice, corporates will noty do anything, unless it saves some money.

why keep letting people talk the talk but not walk the walk…there are some who claim to be environmental thinkers and doers but yet do exactly what they tell us not too..where i work lately they have gotten on this huge kick about being better people and leaving the world a cleaner place.9.its a really really large company and if they did this were i work i know they did this all over the united states0..i am all for that…then they turn around and throw pallets and pallets of flower bulbs in the city dump…they did not plant them..they threw them away..why …if i should take the lead from them..why should i try to recycle and cut down on electricity….when they really arent doing what they preach

Thats a great idea. Then the cost of everything produced will be the true cost including the environmental cost. Which will make everything more expensive. In the end that means if it takes you 20 hrs of work per week to feed yourself after we all turn green it will take about 50 hrs of work per week just to feed ourselves. Eventually we’ll all live in mud huts with dirt floors work 80 to 90 hrs per week just to keep ourselves alive and mercifully die before we reach 40 years of age. But we’ll all be happier knowing that we contributed to a greener planet.

    I feel better already.

Yes, using solar PV panels to support their daytime power needs should be the first on agenda so also that they should adopt and develop lands as bio-diversity forests.

not by their means alone, have to make it compulsory to have a greenery of certain percentage of area depending on the kind of damage their business activities make to the enviornment.
